CATHAY PACIFIC, HA INIZIATO I VOLI MONACO – HONG KONG
Asia-based airline Cathay Pacific has launched flights on the Munich – Hong Kong route. Flights will be operated four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) with Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The new route offers connections via Hong Kong to Asia, Australia and New Zealand, while making Munich a transit point for European and North American connections.
Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers stated that Hong Kong and its surroundings, with a population of over 85 million, is one of Asia's most important economic regions, and that this route strengthens Munich Airport's role in trade and tourism traffic between Europe and Asia.
Cathay Pacific Regional Manager Europe, Brian Tsoi, stated that the addition of Munich to their network provides a new direct connection for both business and leisure travel, and that this route facilitates access to more than 100 destinations via Hong Kong.
Upon the first flight's landing in Munich, the aircraft was greeted with a traditional water salute. Passengers were given gingerbread cookies as souvenirs. A symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on the apron before the first departure.
Cathay Pacific's cargo subsidiary, Cathay Cargo, operated flights from Munich to Hong Kong via Brussels and Dubai between 2004 and 2008. With the new passenger route, businesses in Bavaria and the surrounding area will now be able to transport their cargo directly to Hong Kong.
