TURKISH AIRLINES SIGNED ITS LARGEST WIDE-BODY AIRCRAFT AGREEMENT IN HISTORY WITH BOEING

TURKISH AIRLINES SIGNED THE LARGEST WIDE-BODY AIRCRAFT AGREEMENT IN ITS HISTORY WITH BOEING

Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Turkish Airlines (THY) announced that they have signed a firm order agreement for up to 75 787 Dreamliners, which is Turkish Airlines' largest Boeing wide-body acquisition to date. The agreement includes 35 787-9s, 15 larger 787-10s, and an option for 25 787 Dreamliners. This new order will contribute to Turkish Airlines' further fleet expansion and modernization, as well as support over 123,000 jobs across the U.S.

Turkish Airlines also announced that discussions have been completed for the acquisition of a total of 150 737-8/10MAX type aircraft, comprising 100 firm orders and 50 options, which, when finalized, will be the largest single-aisle aircraft purchase from Boeing. The combined evaluation of the 787 and 737 MAX orders will expand Turkish Airlines' capacity and flight network, while also doubling its Boeing fleet.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, stated: “This agreement should not be seen merely as a fleet expansion move; it should also be regarded as a reflection of our commitment to innovation and operational excellence, which drives our leading position in the industry. The addition of next-generation Boeing aircraft to our fleet will undoubtedly be one of the important components of our 2033 vision, which aims to reach a fleet of 800 aircraft.”

Turkish Airlines, the airline that flies to the most countries in the world, currently operates over 200 Boeing jets, including 787-9, 777, 737 MAX, Next-Generation 737, and 777 Freighter aircraft.

The addition of the larger 787-10 to Turkish Airlines' fleet will allow it to benefit from increased passenger and cargo capacity while improving fuel efficiency on high-demand routes between Istanbul and the U.S., Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

The 787-10, like the 787-9, features the largest windows among wide-body aircraft, while its cabin is pressurized at a lower altitude with a more humid air system. It offers superior passenger comfort by providing a smoother flight thanks to technology that detects turbulence and reduces its effects.

Boeing Ticari Uçaklar Başkanı ve CEO’su Stephanie Pope, “We are proud that Turkish Airlines has once again chosen the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX to support its future growth. Turkish Airlines is one of the global airlines that has made the 787 a versatile component of its long-haul fleet. To date, the 787 Dreamliner family, of which we have delivered over 1,200 aircraft, serves approximately 500,000 passengers every day, connecting more countries than any other wide-body fleet. As a proud 80-year partner of Turkey and the Turkish aviation industry, we are delighted to continue our support as Turkish Airlines expands its operations and offers unparalleled experiences to its passengers.” dedi.
