ANTALYA ARCHEOLOGY MUSEUM MOVED

ANTALYA ARCHAEOLOGY MUSEUM MOVED

The button has been pressed for a major transformation at the Antalya Archaeology Museum, one of Turkey's largest museums. Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that nearly 100,000 artifacts have been safely moved as part of the new museum project. Minister Ersoy used the following expressions in his post on social media, along with images of the artifacts being moved:

"For the new museum project, which we will implement with an earthquake-resistant, modern museology approach suitable for current conditions, our expert teams have safely moved nearly 100,000 artifacts from the Antalya Archaeology Museum. Thousands of our artifacts, including the Sarcophagus of Heracles and the Weary Heracles statue, are under special protection. We will host our artifacts in temporary locations under strict security measures and appropriate climate conditions until their new displays are prepared. We entrust our cultural treasures to the future in our new museum in Antalya."

New Museum Doubles in Size

The new museum to be built in place of the Antalya Archaeology Museum will be approximately double the size of the existing structure. The indoor area will be increased to 19,500 square meters, and the outdoor area to 22,677 square meters.  An increase of over 160% in exhibition halls will allow artifacts awaiting in storage to be showcased to visitors. Storage capacity will also be tripled, ensuring the protection of collections under modern and secure conditions.
