The President of the Turkish Hoteliers Association (TÜROB) and Vice President of Eresin Tourism, Müberra Eresin, has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of Norway in Istanbul by the Norwegian Embassy.
The Norwegian Embassy in Turkey announced that Müberra Eresin, the President of TÜROB and Vice President of Eresin Tourism, has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of Norway in Istanbul. In a statement made by the Norwegian Embassy in Ankara, it was stated that Eresin will be responsible for a wide region covering not only Istanbul but also Kocaeli, Bursa, Sakarya, Tekirdağ, Edirne, Kırklareli, Çanakkale, Balıkesir, Bilecik, and Yalova.
A reception was held at Eresin Hotels Topkapı for the official start of the mission. The event, hosted by the Norwegian Ambassador to Ankara, Andreas Gaarder, and Müberra Eresin, was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions, public officials, and many guests from the business world.
‘Has an Impressive Resume’
Speaking at the reception, Ambassador Gaarder thanked Müberra Eresin for accepting this important mission and said: “Eresin has an impressive resume. After a detailed evaluation process, she was appointed to this position with the approval of the official authorities. We believe that she will successfully represent Norway both in consular duties and in the business world.”
‘Will Make a Meaningful Contribution to the 100th Anniversary Celebrations’
Gaarder stated that Eresin's honorary consulate duty will also make a significant contribution to the 100th anniversary of Norwegian-Turkish diplomatic relations, which will be celebrated next year. Gaarder also emphasized that this task will play an important role not only in tourism and trade but also in strengthening intercultural communication.
‘I Will Contribute Beyond Official Duties’
The Honorary Consul of Norway in Istanbul, Müberra Eresin, said in her speech: “There are strong relations between Norway and Turkey for more than 100 years. My duty as Honorary Consul will not be limited to official processes; I will also work for cultural collaborations, educational projects, and the development of human relations. While the interest of Norwegian tourists in Turkey increases every year, Norway is also becoming an attractive destination for Turkish travelers. In trade, we have solid partnerships in many areas such as energy, maritime, automotive, and textile.”
‘A Great Responsibility and Pride’
Eresin, emphasizing that her area of responsibility is not limited to Istanbul but covers the entire Marmara Region, stated that she undertakes this responsibility with pride. Eresin introduced herself with the following words: “After studying economics at Marmara University, I completed my master's degree in tourism and hotel management in England. My education and career have given me different perspectives both abroad and in Turkey. I have held positions in various institutions in England and Turkey. I am still actively working at Eresin Hotels, TGA, TUGEV, and TÜROB. Being the first female president of TÜROB, which is 54 years old, is one of the most honorable moments in my career. With all this knowledge, I aim to further strengthen the cultural and economic bridges between Norway and Turkey.”
Eresin concluded his remarks by thanking the Norwegian authorities and people who deemed him worthy of this position, saying: "I would especially like to thank His Excellency Ambassador Andreas Gaarder for his kindness and support throughout the process. I am grateful to my colleagues and my beloved family who have been by my side throughout my career. I would especially like to express my heartfelt thanks to my brother Salih Eresin and my older brother Murat Eresin, who supported me in accepting this position."
