Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the 'Simultaneous Triple Independent Runway Operation' will begin at Istanbul Airport tomorrow at 10:00 AM. Minister Uraloğlu said, "Three planes will be able to land or take off at Istanbul Airport simultaneously. Istanbul Airport will be the first airport in Europe to launch triple runway operations."

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that they have taken a historic step in air traffic management at Istanbul Airport. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the 'Simultaneous Triple Independent Runway Operation' will begin at Istanbul Airport on Thursday, April 17th at 10:00 AM, adding, "With this system, three planes will be able to land or take off on completely independent runways at Istanbul Airport simultaneously."

Minister Uraloğlu stated that with the implementation of the system at Istanbul Airport, the runways will be used in the most efficient way. Uraloğlu said, "With the Triple Independent Runway Operation, the traffic flow of Istanbul Airport will accelerate and its dynamic capacity will increase. The Triple Independent Runway Operation is applied in the United States. Istanbul Airport will be the first airport in Europe to launch triple runway operations."

PREPARATIONS STARTED IN 2022, TRAINING COMPLETED

Uraloğlu stated that the project started in the last quarter of 2022, and meetings, risk analyses, safety studies, and simulations were carried out in 2023 and 2024 in cooperation with Eurocontrol, the State Airports Authority, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, and Turkish Airlines. Uraloğlu said that all necessary preparations were completed in line with the safety analysis report prepared by Eurocontrol, adding, "A new airspace design was created, control systems were adapted to triple operations, and airline companies were informed. Our Air Traffic Controllers were trained with our domestic and national simulator."

THE SYSTEM INCLUDES AUTOMATIC STRUCTURES THAT HELP PREDICT FLIGHT ROUTES AND FLOWS

Minister Uraloğlu also stated that the technology required to support triple runway operations is extremely advanced and complex, saying, "The system includes advanced radars, precision navigation aids, and powerful air traffic control protocols. All these components ensure that simultaneous operations are carried out safely and that air and ground traffic continues uninterrupted. The system also includes automatic structures that help predict flight routes and flows, playing an important role in preventing runway incursions and managing smooth traffic."
