5 people were injured after a forest fire in the Lasithi region of Crete spread to residential areas.

In the Lasithi region of Crete, Greece, a fire that started in the forest the previous day spread rapidly and reached residential areas, damaging some homes. More than 1,500 people were evacuated from homes and hotels on the instructions of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection. 5 people affected by the fire were taken to hospital for treatment.

Aerial and ground intervention in the fire continues, while strong winds in the region are reported to be making the work difficult.
