Bergamo Airport in Italy was temporarily closed after a person died on the runway.

At Bergamo Airport in Italy, an as yet unidentified person ran onto the runway and approached the engine of an aircraft, subsequently being sucked into the engine. The incident reportedly occurred as the aircraft was maneuvering from the parking area in preparation for takeoff.

In a statement, the airport indicated that flight operations were suspended between 10:20 AM and 12:00 PM local time due to ‘a problem that occurred on the taxiway.’

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
