Ahmet Girgin, Secretary General of the Federation of Health Tourism Associations of Turkey and Manager of M2 HTC Health Tourism Travel Agency, answered the questions of GM Tourism and Management Magazine. Girgin stated that health tourism is the most important argument in the goal of spreading tourism over 12 months.How do you evaluate the 2025 season in health tourism compared to 2024?Health tourism appears to be an increasingly accelerating trend. What are your solution suggestions for this?Our biggest problem is that we have not been able to make health tourism a national issue. Health tourism is a multidisciplinary new sector that combines health and tourism needs, which makes significant contributions to the country's economy in both health and tourism. This sector should be evaluated independently by the state on a platform where all stakeholders have a say. The Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Commerce, non-governmental organizations, and all kinds of institutions and organizations operating in health tourism mobility need to make long-term plans. The biggest problem, the answer to your question, is the inability to unite yet. We believe that we can solve these problems with strategic, long-term plans that will allow us to surpass rival countries the moment we achieve this unity.Can health tourism be a solution for 12-month tourism?Of course. While our country is in a general mass tourism trend such as sea, sand, sun, and cultural tourism, health tourism is the leading type of tourism that can spread tourism over 12 months. In health tourism, especially hair transplantation and other treatments are more preferred in the winter season. Since other radical surgeries, oncological cases, and organ transplantations are types of treatment that need to be done without waiting, health tourism is the most important argument in 12-month diversification.
