A radical change is on the horizon in the aviation industry. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), affiliated with the United Nations, is preparing for revolutionary innovations in the rules applicable at airports. With the new regulation, traditional check-in procedures and boarding pass application will be completely digitalized. They will be replaced by biometric authentication and facial recognition systems.

Expected to be Implemented Within Three Years

According to the British newspaper The Times, ICAO aims to implement the new "digital travel document" system within the next three years. Thanks to this system, passengers will be able to download a digital travel document to their phones as soon as they purchase their flight ticket. The document will be updated automatically if there are any changes to the reservation.

Passports Will Be Uploaded to Phones

Within the scope of the new regulation, passengers will also be able to integrate their passport information into their mobile devices. When they arrive at the airport, they will be able to pass quickly and contactlessly through facial recognition systems. Thus, there will be no need to show a boarding pass and physical check-in processes.

Instant Information Transfer with Facial Recognition

Thanks to facial recognition technology, when a passenger arrives at the airport, their identity will be verified instantly and their information will be transmitted directly to the airline. In this way, airlines will be able to see who will board the plane instantly.

The new system is expected to increase security at airports as well as greatly simplify the passenger experience.
