The Pope's Funeral Brought the Peak of the Year to Rome Hotels
Hotel occupancy rates in Rome soared following the Pope's death. According to CoStar data, occupancy reached 88.8%, especially on the night of April 25, the day before the funeral. On this date, the average daily room rate (ADR) was €351.13, while revenue per available room (RevPAR) rose to €311.90. These figures indicate the highest hotel performance in Rome in 2025.
The day after April 25, prices in all sub-regions of Rome showed double-digit increases. In particular, ADR in hotels in the city center rose to €786.89, an increase of 42.1% year-on-year.
Alexander Robinson, STR Regional Director, said, "We often see the impact of major events on the hotel market across Europe; however, the Pope's funeral was only announced five days in advance. Achieving such high occupancy rates in such a short time creates an extraordinary picture."
In addition, the booking rate in hotels has already exceeded 84% before the election process of the new Pope (conclave), which will start on May 7. This rate stands out as the highest occupancy rate expected in the next 90 days.
