American low-cost airline Spirit Airlines aims to appeal to a wider audience by introducing seats with extra legroom on its aircraft. These new seats, which will be offered with the "Go Comfy" package, will take their place on flights as of July.

Spirit Airlines Introduces New Seats to Increase Passenger Comfort

US-based low-cost airline Spirit Airlines has taken a new step to increase in-flight comfort in order to improve its long-term loss-making financial performance and reach a wider audience. The company announced that it will convert seven rows on its aircraft to seats with extra legroom. In this context, 42 seats will be reconfigured to have a 32-inch pitch instead of the standard 28 inches.

The new seats will make the extra space option, which is currently only offered in exit rows and a limited number of "Big Front Seat" seats, more widespread. The renovation process is scheduled to start in June and be completed on most of the fleet by July 2025. The remaining aircraft will be included in the transformation in 2026.

Will Be Offered with the "Go Comfy" Package

The new wide seats will be offered as part of the "Go Comfy" package, one of the four new fare categories announced by Spirit in 2024. In the current system, this package included advantages such as leaving the middle seat next to the passenger empty. However, in the new system, which will be available for sale as of May 15, this privilege will be replaced by extra legroom seats. The application will be valid for flights starting on July 9.

The Go Comfy package will continue to offer advantages such as a free carry-on baggage, priority boarding, and food and beverage service.

New Privileges for the Loyalty Program

Spirit Airlines also announced new privileges for its members as part of the Free Spirit loyalty program. Free Spirit cardholders and those with loyalty status will be upgraded to Comfy Seats or Big Front Seats free of charge during the flight, depending on availability. From June, this privilege will also be valid for a travel companion.

In addition, Free Spirit points can now be used not only for ticket purchases, but also for Go Comfy and Go Big packages. Spirit branded Mastercard users will be entitled to two free baggage allowances on each flight by the end of this year.

Investment in Flight Comfort Continues

Although Spirit Airlines is known for its low-cost airline model, it continues to reposition its products in line with increasing competition and changing passenger expectations. With its new seats and loyalty program privileges, the airline aims to appeal to both passengers who prioritize comfort and those looking for affordable travel.
