FOREST FIRE ON THE ISLAND OF CRETE: 5 INJURED
Five people were injured after a forest fire in the Lasithi region of Crete spread to residential areas.
In the Lasithi region of Crete, Greece, a fire that started in a forest the day before spread rapidly and reached residential areas, damaging some homes. More than 1,500 people were evacuated from homes and hotels on the instructions of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection. Five people affected by the fire were taken to hospital for treatment.
Aerial and ground intervention continues on the fire, while strong winds in the region are reported to be hampering efforts.
