GÜNTAY BAKIR WROTE: NETWORKISM
How about we talk about networking? But let's talk with a Tourism adaptation. Although it is an English concept, it can be defined as networking in Turkish. So, how do you think social networking and usage processes work in tourism? Or is healthy networkism being done?
We have very strong social network connections, yes. I think that when managed correctly, it is a very important resource for your business or personal career. Although there are equivalents in Turkish such as "I have an uncle" or "I have a reliable acquaintance", we need to move the subject out of that dimension and turn to what we can learn from our social network or our relationships here. Isn't it time to break the image that you can't do anything in tourism without an acquaintance?
We can also achieve a success that can bring very serious success to our institution by using a connection. A good sales connection or a good purchasing strategy can be created.
So, a question for you. Do the managers of huge institutions also have a huge social network in proportion to the size of the institutions? I think the equation within this criterion needs to be analyzed correctly.
Because when this issue is not handled correctly, perhaps this is what we encounter. When there is a strong institution but a weak manager, what we call social networking turns from using to being used. How? It seems like they have a strong network only as long as they are in that position. However, in general, the mediocre manager in that position unfortunately does not go beyond being used. Especially if they are unaware of the world and have stayed away from everything, an even worse situation arises for the institution.
Your development stops, you cannot use your power effectively. So you're just saving the moment.
You know there are tourism lobbies, one-on-one communication in the past, then phones, and then social media that puts the whole world at your fingertips.
Have you ever wondered? Are you managing your social network correctly?
In general, you have to think that if you are only using your social network, this unfortunately falls into one-sided management. And over time, if you do not have the giving power to strengthen this social network, you start to fall behind and break away.
When you see yourself at the top, you suddenly find yourself gone. So I guess being unreachable isn't all that great. Fake references, incorrect information sharing, smears, etc. etc. etc.
I am saddened to see that many people are being weakened in this direction. "Don't hire that person", "You can't work with that company" or vice versa. Being positive references for people who won't be? The person you refer to is also carrying you with them somewhere. Aren't they getting into the place or job you directed them to with the reference of your knowledge and equipment?
I'm really asking why you're doing this. When people see that a piece of information you give is wrong or misleading, they start to not take you seriously anymore. Then they do what you did to you, and internal bargains and wars begin.
Yes, and there is this aspect of the issue. The lobby side that appears on social media is 100% there. Especially in the tourism industry, phones and messages...
We got into some very dirty places, didn't we? Just friendly advice. Wear your armor everywhere, take it off and lighten up next to your real friends.
An executive without a strong social network will not add any value to you in the long run, no matter how strong their institution is. Please remember this: even if a manager who mistreats employees in your workplace seems charming on the outside, things are not really like that.
Let's say goodbye again by thinking and making you think then
You can occupy a position, an office. You may have come here with your connections. Maybe you were appointed. Let these people be by your side... Let them work with this company...
In an industry moving at such a high speed, how sustainable is it to stay afloat with connections alone?”
