UN, URGES IMMEDIATE ACTION ON CLIMATE CRISIS
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calls for accelerated global action against the climate crisis.
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that rapid and effective steps should be taken at the global level against the climate crisis, saying, "We have no time to lose."
Making a statement after the high-level climate meeting held at the UN building, Guterres said, "No region is immune to the devastation of accelerating climate disasters. The crisis deepens poverty, displaces communities, and fuels conflict and instability. We cannot, must not, and will not give up on climate action."
Drawing attention to renewable energy, Guterres stated that a concrete roadmap is expected to be presented at the 'COP30 Summit' to be held in Brazil in November on how to provide annual financing of $1.3 trillion for developing countries by 2035.
In addition to the leaders of China, the European Union (EU), and various climate-affected countries, representatives of regional organizations such as the African Union, ASEAN, and the Alliance of Small Island States attended the meeting.
