GÖBEKLİTEPE WAS VISITED BY 30 THOUSAND PEOPLE DURING THE HOLIDAY
In Şanlıurfa, Göbeklitepe, described as the 'Zero Point of History' with its 12,000-year history, experienced a heavy influx of visitors due to the Ramadan Holiday. During the 3-day holiday, 30,000 people visited Göbeklitepe, and visitors formed long queues at the entrance.
Göbeklitepe, discovered in 1963 during surface studies by researchers from Istanbul and Chicago Universities, and excavations started in 1995 with the permission of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, revealed 'T' shaped standing stones with wild animal figures, dating back to the Neolithic period, ranging from 3 to 6 meters in height and weighing 40 to 60 tons. Göbeklitepe, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, welcomes thousands of local and foreign tourists every year.
Thousands of people are also visiting Göbeklitepe during the 9-Day Ramadan Holiday. During the 3 days of the holiday, 30,000 people came to see Göbeklitepe. Long queues formed at the archaeological site. Şanlıurfa Governor Hasan Şıldak stated that the process proceeded smoothly with the measures taken during the holiday rush.
