FRANCE'S BLUE FLAG REPORT CARD
In France, 388 beaches and 104 marinas have been awarded the Pavillon Bleu (Blue Flag) for the 2025 summer season. The program, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, promotes destinations that lead the way in sustainable tourism.
492 Spots in France Receive Blue Flags for Summer 2025
The results of the 2025 Pavillon Bleu (Blue Flag) program, coordinated by the Teragir Association, which has been operating since 1985 to promote environmentally friendly tourism practices in France, have been announced. Under the internationally recognized program, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, 388 beaches and 104 marinas in France have been awarded the Blue Flag.
182 municipalities are included in the 2025 list, and four new destinations are on the list for the first time: Osselle-Routelle (Doubs), La Couarde-sur-Mer (Charente-Maritime), Soursac (Corrèze), and Gourdon (Lot). In addition, the Larousselle Port in Charente-Maritime and the Honfleur Port in Calvados were awarded the Blue Flag for the first time.
The Occitanie region leads the country with 120 certified beaches and ports, followed by Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur (119 sites). The Var Department is the region in France with the most Blue Flags, with 44 beaches and 15 ports.
The Pavillon Bleu rewards not only cleanliness and environmental management criteria, but also initiatives for the protection of biodiversity. In 2025, the Thomas Joly Award was given to the Municipality of La Rochelle for its retro-littoral marsh reconstruction project in Tasdon. In addition, the Port of Dieppe was recognized for its plankton awareness efforts.
Today, the Blue Flag label flies on more than 5,200 coasts and ports in more than 50 countries. Sustainability criteria have been strengthened by making a biodiversity inventory mandatory for beaches from 2023 and for ports from 2024.
